Plants Vs. Zombies Heroes is a colorful collectible card game. Despite its humble origins as a tower defense game, Plants Vs. Zombies has proven itself to be a versatile and marketable franchise. It comes as no surprise that PopCap Games has decided to leverage this franchise into new genres, and one of the more creative uses comes in the form of a collectible card game offering MOBA elements.

Heroes puts aside the player vs. computer content of its predecessor in favor of a format of exclusive player vs. player gameplay. In doing so, it trades the meticulously crafted puzzle mechanics of the original for a more flexible format that requires quick and improvisational thinking. Players can choose from over 20 decks of cards consisting of either zombies or plants. Each comes with their own hero, and the range of different play styles these heroes encompass is refreshingly vast. In a nod to the tower defense notions of the first Plants Vs. Zombies, Heroes asks players to protect their base by guarding five lanes from the opponent and trying to push against their own defenses. Gameplay is quick and merciless, and the constant addition of new cards creates a highly strategic game that only grows more complex with each new update.
